Playground to Workplace: Setting Boundaries
Playground to Workplace: Setting Boundaries
This session was part of a professional development conference and focused on a skill we all need but rarely talk about: setting healthy boundaries. I co-created and co-facilitated the session with two of my colleagues, blending personal storytelling, reflection, and small-group conversation to make the topic approachable and easy to connect with.
I designed the overall flow of the session and crafted the main story that grounded our discussion. It centered on my sisters setting literal boundaries at the park so their kids could play safely and happily. It was a simple story that clicked immediately with participants. They saw how the same ideas applied in their workplaces and personal lives.
Along with my co-facilitators, I created an environment that felt safe and welcoming. People opened up, shared their experiences, and learned from each other in a way that felt natural and unforced.
The 60-minute session combined storytelling, guided reflection, and small-group discussions. Participants explored where they struggle to set boundaries and brainstormed strategies to help them navigate those situations.
The tone of the session was conversational and friendly. We wanted people to smile, relax, and feel comfortable sharing their thoughts. When people feel at ease, they are more likely to engage and retain what they learn. Every activity was designed to encourage participation without pressure, helping learners connect personally with the content.
The session was a success! Participants said it helped them see boundaries in a new light and gave them language they could use right away. Many invited us to bring the workshop to their own organizations and events because they saw the immediate value for their teams.
The best part was seeing people leave energized and confident, ready to put their new insights into practice.
